RETHINKING SCHOOLS
Nineteen years ago, a group of Milwaukee-area teachers had a vision. They
wanted not only to improve education in their own classrooms and schools, but to
help shape reform throughout the public school system in the United States.
Today that vision is embodied in Rethinking Schools. Through the distribution
of a quarterly journal and other publications on critical topics in education,
Rethinking Schools has become a national resource for educators seeking
progressive and socially conscious materials and curricula. Its 1991
publication of Rethinking Columbus (expanded and revised in 1998) is a
compilation of lesson plans, short stories and interviews which reevaluate the legacy of
Columbus in North America.
